Volunteerism

WGL employees embrace volunteering by tirelessly working to make our communities better places to live and work.

For the second year in a row, WGL employees have logged more than 11,000 volunteer hours. This year, WGL’s Community Service program celebrated its 12th anniversary of supporting charitable organizations that work in the areas of health, education, and the environment. Every year WGL employees participate in a vast array of projects ranging from serving meals to the homeless, raising money for Junior Achievement, to cleaning up environmentally-sensitive areas.

WGL has received a significant amount of acknowledgement for its volunteerism. In 2013, for the eighth consecutive year, the Washington Business Journal ranked WGL among top corporate philanthropists for employee volunteerism. Washington Gas received the top corporate fundraising team award from the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s DC Light the Night Walk in 2012 and 2014. Washington Gas was also recognized for community support by Special Olympics D.C., the Southern Gas Association, and the Fairfax, Virginia, Chamber of Commerce.
