Corporate Giving

As a responsible corporate citizen, WGL has developed a Corporate Giving Program designed to make a meaningful and lasting impact on the communities it serves through contributions, in-kind support and volunteer resources.

The WGL Corporate Giving Program focuses on three primary areas: education, the environment, and health. The focus in the environmental area is on programs that promote cleaner air, cleaner water and preserve the ecological system of the Washington, DC, metropolitan region.

In 2014, $863,000 was donated to hundreds of regional non-profit and charitable organizations through our Corporate Giving Program. Since 2002, WGL has donated over $9 million dollars under this program. In addition, WGL’s Employee Giving Campaign has made over $1.2 million in donations to local, national and international charities over the past 11 years.

The Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF), is the company’s signature philanthropic program. In 2013, WAFF provided nearly $824,000 in heating assistance grants to 7,000 area low-income residents. During its 30 year tenure, WAFF has disbursed nearly $23 million to 261,600 residents, no matter what type of fuel they use to heat their homes. The Salvation Army administers the program at 12 local offices and WGL pays all associated costs so that 100% of donations go to heating assistance.
